Yaradi Nee Mohini!
Yay! I finally managed to see Yaradi Nee Mohini. The movie cannot be written off as just another love story. The setting of the story may sound very cliched. Yes you guessed it right, Dhanush is an unemployed youth , who does not respect his dad and has his daily quota of beer.
The way the director has pictured the relationship between Dhanush and his father(Raghuvaran) is awesome. Not to forget the performance of Raghuvaran. His mannerisms, voice modulation, gait, dress sense and what-not. His presence just lifted the experience. Be it the scenes where he scolds his son like every father does, or the scenes where he consoles his son in his love failure, he is just God-like. I think the whole Kollywood is going to sorely miss Raghuvaran and his presence on the celluloid.
Okay Okay… I understand! As for Dhanush he is just growing in each and every film. His strong points have always been his boy-next-door image, sense of humor and spontaneity in reactions. YNM offers you all this in sufficient amounts. One thing Dhanush can and should avoid is on-screen resemblance to his father-in-law, Rajinikanth. Another important thing he must think about is different characters. I have seen couple of interviews where he admits acting similar roles and also believes that it is the currently commercially viable option for him. I think he must remember his entry into the Kollywood was not through a run-of-the-mill story. I, as a fan expect him to do something about these.
Ahem! Nayantara was just awesome. Thanks to Billa she has lost quite a few pounds. She is one of the few Kollywood actresses who can look sexy in her churidar. However her role as a Software Project Manager justified all the western clothes she was in. (sigh) She does her role pretty well. We must give credit to the director for using Nayantara for more than just the song sequences. Of course her character was not portrayed flawlessly, but this is better than Trisha’s namesake existence in Vijay movies.
Hey this 16 yr old mallu gal who comes as Nayantara’s sister is beautiful. She has loads of potential. Even in the movie Dhanush has a dialogue where he remarks she is more beautiful than Nayantara;-) She is cute and bubbly and worth the distractions she creates in screenplay.
The one thing that beats all logic is how Dhanush becomes a successful Software Developer. He is an inspiration for all those computer illiterates. He starts learning Java from scratch, doing night-out reciting “Java is an object oriented language…” over and over again. Miraculously passes written, GD without any spoken English skills whatsoever, interview by just seeing Nayantara’s face from a see through window in the office, in the recruitment process. The victory march does not end there. He crashes the entire system by a few key presses. Hackers Beware! After this hacking stint, his boss almost fires Nayantara, his mentor for allowing a trainee to handle the code base. Now, Dhanush becomes all responsible and importantly becomes a Java wizard comparable to Bruce Eckel. After a night-out he single handedly debugs an entire software. The scenes where Dhanush codes only reminds me of scenes from Kadhalar Dhinam where Gounda Mani elbows around on the keyboard to send a mail:-)
Final verdict, Nayantara is just too hot! Raghuvaran and Dhanush score on the acting and screen presence!
